Georges St. Pierre Nominated for an ESPY

As reported by Michael Rome, in Bloody Elbow:

Georges St. Pierre has been nominated for an ESPY in the "best fighter" category. He is up against four boxers, including Floyd Mayweather, Joe Calzaghe, Kelly Pavlik, and Holly Holm. Last year, Randy Couture and Quinton Jackson were both nominated, but came up short. This year the boxing vote will likely be split, which gives Georges a good chance of winning if MMA fans sign up and vote for him.

In some ways he seems like a token Mixed Martial Arts nomination, but I think he's a good one. Nobody else besides Anderson Silva has had a better summer to summer period since the last awards in the MMA world.

how come anderson isn't nominated if two MMA fighters were nominated last year?? who is holly holm??? and this whole thing makes me wonder why doesn't MMA or the UFC award fighters based on their last years performance. like an MVP of the season for all the other sports. have a rookie of the year and all the that, it would be good exposure for the sport and the fighters.

Hey FatWreckChords! You make some great points here! The Spider definitely deserves to be considered. I think that "MMA" as a sport is far too fragmented to come up with any kind of an awarding body. Unless, maybe MADNESS steps up to create it!WOW! I'm going to have to think about that one for while! Anyway, .....and as for the UFC, if anyone is in a position to do it, they are. If all of, or half of, the criticism levelled at the UFC is true though, they just may not be focused enough on the fighters, to care enough to consider them for awards. Oh......I don't know who Holly Holm is either!
